Assurance firms use Carbonhalo to reduce review time and streamline engagements

Why audit and assurance teams use us

Spend your time on judgement, not evidence chasing.

A poorly prepared climate file can turn assurance into an exercise in chasing evidence, reconstructing calculations and going back through the client’s accounts. Carbonhalo prepares the evidence trail before the file reaches your team.

Built for assurance from day one

Working papers, methodology, evidence and disclosure mapping are built as the numbers are prepared, so your team isn't reconstructing the file after the fact.

Traceable from source to disclosure

Every material figure has a clear trail from source document through activity data, emission factor and calculation to the reported result, with reconciliation to the relevant general ledger.

Questions come to us, not the client

We answer the questions about the numbers we prepared. Your team doesn't have to spend time coordinating between the client, finance team and whoever prepared the calculations.

Preparation and assurance stay separate

Carbonhalo prepares. You assure. The roles remain clearly separated, giving assurance firms a preparation partner they can refer clients to without taking on the preparation work themselves.

Human expertise. Better technology. Cleaner assurance.

The expertise to prepare it. The technology to prove it.

We are not selling your clients a transformation project. We just prepare the disclosures properly. Experienced people do the work, with technology that keeps the process efficient, the data traceable and the cost under control.

Every figure ties back to a source document

One working paper, one figure, six fields. This is the unit your review is built on. It exists for every number in the inventory before you ask for it.

What the reviewer receives

Nine documents. One traceable evidence file.

AASB S2 reporting creates a significant body of evidence. We build that evidence as the work progresses, so key judgements, figures and disclosures can be traced back to their source. Each document has a clear purpose and gives the reviewer something tangible to assess.

The document

What it covers

01 · Governance terms of reference

Documents the governance body’s role, responsibilities and oversight of climate-related matters, providing evidence for the governance disclosures.

02 · Industry and peer analysis

Sets out relevant sector risks, peer practices and reporting maturity, providing context for the entity’s identification and assessment of climate-related risks and opportunities.

03 · Risk and opportunity register

A full sweep of climate risks and opportunities, prioritised and assessed. The register shows the process, not just the conclusion, so the completeness assertion is testable.

04 · Scenario and resilience analysis

Records the climate-related risks and opportunities identified, including their assessment, prioritisation and status. It shows how the conclusions were reached, not just what the conclusions are.

05 · Financial impact assessment

Links material climate-related risks and opportunities to their potential financial effects, with the basis and assumptions used for each assessment documented.

06 · Materiality memorandum

Documents the basis for determining what is material and therefore included in the disclosure. It provides a clear record of the judgements and thresholds applied.

07 · Emissions inventory report

Provides the underlying Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions calculations, with sources, emission factors and evidence references traced through to the reported figures.

08 · Resolutions

Records the formal decisions and approvals supporting key determinations and disclosures, providing evidence that they were considered and adopted by the appropriate governing body.

09 · Sustainability report

The final board-ready disclosure, supported by a disclosure index mapping the reported content to the relevant AASB S2 requirements.

Two groups, overlapping needs

Auditors and assurance providers are different readers.

The evidence they need overlaps significantly. The context they work in does not. We prepare the working papers for both, without blurring the distinction.

Auditors

Registered company auditors providing the assurance opinion alongside the financial report.

You are working within an established financial audit process, with climate information that needs to reconcile to the underlying financial and operational records.
You need clear evidence of where the numbers came from, how they were calculated, and how the reported figures can be independently re-performed.

We provide the reconciliation, source evidence and calculation trail to make that process straightforward.

Assurance providers

Practitioners performing sustainability assurance under ASAE 5000.

You may be providing limited assurance over specific disclosures or metrics, often without the same financial audit history or existing audit file.
You need the sustainability work to stand on its own, with a clear boundary, documented methodology, supporting evidence and a direct link between the requirements and the disclosures.

We provide the boundary memo, methodology, evidence trail and disclosure index needed to work through the engagement efficiently.

What we need from you

Four things upfront. A smoother assurance process.

Give us these four inputs early and we build the file around your assurance approach from day one, rather than adapting it at the end.

01 · Client and reporting year

Which reporting group the client falls into, where the client is in their AASB S2 reporting cycle and the financial year they operate under.

02 · Materiality threshold

The quantitative materiality threshold and any qualitative factors you will apply. We use this to align the depth of our calculations, evidence and documentation with the level of testing expected.

03 · Timetable

Your interim and final fieldwork dates, and when the file needs to be complete. We build backwards from your dates, not the client's.

04 · Evidence-format preferences

How you want working papers delivered, how you want them indexed, and any firm-specific referencing convention. We match your file, not ours.

How the assurance handover runs

Built in three streams. Handed over as one complete file.

The work is completed across three connected streams, delivered in parallel. At handover, you receive a complete, traceable file ready for your assurance process.

We stay involved after handover. If a question comes up, you can come directly to the people who prepared the numbers and disclosures, not through the client’s finance team.

Stream 01

Emissions baseline

Organisational boundary set and documented, data sources mapped and the reporting year fixed, then Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 measured from the client’s own records. The boundary memo is written here, not reverse-engineered later.

Stream 02

Climate disclosures

Documents and disclosures created against the four AASB S2 pillars, with key statements and requirements cross-referenced to the evidence that supports them.

Stream 03

Sustainability report

The complete sustainability report is assembled, reviewed and cross-referenced, then issued to the client for board approval with the disclosure index attached.

Handover

Assurance support

Working papers handed over in the format you asked for, and your questions answered directly by us rather than relayed through the client’s finance team. We prepare and explain.

“We are highly complimentary of the quality, completeness and professionalism of Carbonhalo’s climate reporting work. The standard of documentation significantly assists audit.”
